Being able to use their bowling greens all year round is a dream for many bowls clubs in southern states.

“We certainly found that the use of our greens was quite limited because of our harsh winters,” said Colac Bowling Club Board Chairman, Leigh Rich.

“During COVID we applied for a Government loan to install a roof over our green because we saw the downtime as a great opportunity to expand the use of our facility.”

After speaking with representatives from Deer Park, Sunbury and Warrnambool Bowling Clubs, the management team at Colac decided to proceed with Trevor Scott and his team at Lightweight Structures.

“People could not speak highly enough of Trevor and from the very first, our experience with him and his company was nothing short of exceptional,” Mr Rich said.

“Trevor was incredible at pitching the concept to us and his openness, transparency and accessibility made him a very comfortable choice for us.

“Although we had some Government funding for the project, we were also using our own funds,” he said. As we had no funding state or local, we had to use our own funds, so the contingencies could make or break the project.

“We are not a large club, so it was important that we were not hit with unexpected inclusions.

“From the outset, Trevor was hands-on with every aspect of the work from design and engineering, to construction. He is a fantastic operator and he made everything so simple. Coming from a construction background myself, I know that the building industry is generally not like that.”

And now the use of the club’s facilities has increased and the dome over the green is a real talking point.

“People just see it and go ‘Wow!’,” said Mr Rich. “It is a huge asset to the club and everyone just loves it.” People who see it comment on how it far exceeded their expectations and has become a huge asset to the club.
